Heat Treatment Training Course
Using heat Manipulation Processes
For Level 1 Operators

This programme applies to persons within the Heat Treatment Industry. The credits allocated to this unit standard assume that a learner has already learned to identify engineering plate, pipe and structural steel materials and is able to set up oxy-fuel gas cutting and heating equipment.
- Methods of Heat Transfer Per-Heating
- Post-weld heat treatment
- Temperature Measurement
- Thermocouple attachment
- Typical Thermocouple attachment procedure
- Resistance heating
- Pipework pre-heat
The duration of this programme is based on the minimum credits required to attain the Unit Standard (4 credits). Classroom time has been extended to assist in the preparation for the workplace experience: 4 days Theory and 1-day Assessment (Knowledge Questionnaire and Practical). Then the learners continue with workplace (3 days).
It is assumed that an FEC certificate, or equivalent, has been obtained by the candidate at level 4. (The Standard 10 / Grade 12 certificate meets these requirements).

Heat Treatment Training Course

For Level 2 Operators

- This course consists of Electrical, Combustion Heat Treatment Methods and Supervision.
- 6-day classroom training and 3-day practical training followed by on job training workplace experience using signed-off logbooks by supervision.
- The training can be done in 3 different locations Secunda, Vaal Triangle or Johannesburg or if requested at the clients' premisses with suitable facilities.
